On January 21, 2025, all junior high students from Pelita Global Mandiri School had the opportunity to visit the House of the People’s Representative Council (Dewan Perwakilan Rakyat/DPR RI) in Jakarta. This educational trip aimed to provide students with a deeper understanding of Indonesia’s legislative history and the workings of the nation’s parliamentary system.

The visit began with a tour of the DPR RI Museum, which provided a fascinating overview of Indonesia’s political history. The museum showcased various historical artifacts, documents, and multimedia displays that illustrated the development of Indonesia’s parliamentary system, shedding light on key milestones in the country’s political journey.
Following the museum tour, the students explored the Nusantara I Building, an essential part of the DPR RI complex. Here, they visited the legislative chambers, where members of the Dewan Perwakilan Rakyat meet to discuss and pass laws. The students also had the opportunity to observe the building’s layout and understand its role in the legislative process, offering them a hands-on experience of how laws are made in Indonesia.
The visit concluded with an informative session about the Dewan Perwakilan Rakyat. The session explained the structure and functions of the DPR, emphasizing its significant role in Indonesia’s democracy. The DPR is responsible for drafting laws, approving the national budget, and overseeing the executive branch, making it a cornerstone of the country’s political system.
“Visiting the DPR RI building was an eagerly awaited activity for our students,” said Ms. Ima, Principal of SMP Pelita Global Mandiri. “This visit allowed the students to learn about the history and development of the legislative system in Indonesia, the functions and duties of the DPR, and the importance of the people’s representative system in our democracy.”
