On January 13, 2025, Pelita Global Mandiri Junior High School organized an exciting planting activity that provided valuable hands-on learning experiences for the students. The event, which involved all students from grades 7 to 9, took place at the school grounds, with each grade level taking part in different planting projects.
Seventh-grade students planted celery, gaining insight into the process of growing this nutritious vegetable, from seed planting to harvest. Meanwhile, eighth and ninth-grade students were tasked with planting cherry tomatoes, a popular fruit that offered them a chance to explore the steps involved in cultivating produce. The planting activity not only allowed students to connect with nature but also provided a platform to learn about sustainability, responsibility, and the importance of healthy food production.
The event encouraged teamwork, collaboration, and an appreciation for agriculture. It also aligned with the school’s ongoing green initiatives, fostering environmental awareness and a sense of responsibility toward nature.
Ms. Anggit, the event coordinator and Science teacher, shared her thoughts on the activity:
“Planting activities like this allow students to learn about important scientific concepts such as photosynthesis, plant life cycles, ecosystems, and interdependence. It also helps students develop critical thinking and observation skills, which are crucial for their overall education. It’s heartening to see them engage with the process of growing food and recognize the significance of sustainability.”
This planting activity was a perfect way for students to gain practical knowledge about environmental issues while enjoying a productive and educational day. It reinforced the school’s commitment to promoting environmental consciousness among its students and fostering a deeper understanding of the natural world.
