Pelita Global Mandiri Elementary School celebrated Literacy Week on October 31, 2024, with enthusiasm and creativity. This enriching event involved all students from Grades 1 to 6, highlighting the importance of reading and writing as essential skills for lifelong learning.
The event was graced by a special guest, Ms. Ernawati, a renowned author of children’s storybooks. She shared her expertise and passion for storytelling with the students, sparking their imagination and enthusiasm for writing. The younger students (Grades 1-3) participated in a workshop to craft short stories under the theme “My Dreams,” while older students (Grades 4-6) explored the theme “My Personal Belongings.” These activities encouraged students to express their thoughts and creativity through writing, enhancing their ability to construct narratives.
In addition to the workshops, the event featured the Bekasi Mobile Library, providing a unique opportunity for students to explore a wide range of books. Students were also taught simple transactional skills as they purchased books and stationery from the mobile library. This interaction was not only fun but also a valuable real-life learning experience.
To add excitement, students came dressed as their favorite storybook characters, bringing the world of literature to life. The colorful costumes created a vibrant atmosphere and encouraged students to engage with stories and characters in a more personal and imaginative way.
The event aimed to instill a reading habit in students from an early age, emphasizing the value of books—whether for entertainment or gaining general knowledge. Throughout the day, students were reminded of the joy and benefits of reading as a daily activity.
Ms. Ernawati, the guest speaker, praised the event, stating, “This activity is very inspiring for enhancing children’s literacy and boosting their creativity in storytelling. Hopefully, these children will be motivated to participate in various literacy-related competitions in the future.”
