On October 10, 2024, the third-grade students of Pelita Global Mandiri Elementary embarked on an educational and thrilling field trip to Animalium in Sentul, Bogor. This immersive experience was designed to bring classroom biology lessons to life, providing students with a hands-on opportunity to explore the world of animal biology in a way that textbooks alone cannot.
The day began with a guided tour where 43 enthusiastic students explored exhibits showcasing a vast array of vertebrate and invertebrate species. Students observed the physical structures of these animals, including their skeletal features, body coverings, and unique adaptations for survival. They learned about different diets—herbivores, carnivores, and omnivores—and were fascinated to discover how animals are perfectly adapted to their specific habitats, whether in water, forest, desert, or grassland.
A highlight of the trip was learning about animal evolution, which included understanding the life cycle of various species and tracing adaptations such as eggs, beaks, wings, claws, and feathers. The evolution exhibit offered students a deeper appreciation of how animals have changed over time to survive in their environments. Moreover, students had the rare chance to interact directly with some of the animals, observing their behaviors up close and even touching certain species, which sparked a sense of wonder and excitement.

This hands-on experience not only enhanced the students’ understanding of biological concepts but also instilled a sense of empathy and responsibility toward animals and their conservation. Through guided discussions, students reflected on the importance of respecting wildlife and the role humans play in preserving biodiversity. The field trip to Animalium, combining both educational insight and direct interaction, created lasting memories for the students and left them inspired to continue exploring the natural world around them.
Pelita Global Mandiri Elementary would like to extend its heartfelt gratitude to Ms. Jihan and Mr. Iqbal for their dedication in making this event successful, as well as to the Animalium staff for their support and expertise. This field trip is sure to be a cherished experience, encouraging students to delve deeper into their studies and appreciate the remarkable diversity of life on Earth.
