Date and Time: August 17, 2024
Location: Pelita Global Mandiri School

Pelita Global Mandiri School celebrated Indonesia’s 79th Independence Day with great enthusiasm on August 17, 2024. The event, held at the school, was attended by 94 members of the PGM family, including the school management team, teachers, security personnel, and cleaning staff. Hundreds of students from both elementary and middle school, along with many parents, participated to make the celebration even more vibrant.
Preparation for the Independence Day celebration had been in the works for over a month, led by the dedicated teachers. The students, especially from the elementary squad, eagerly embraced the spirit of the event. They practiced singing the national anthem Indonesia Raya, observing a moment of silence with Mengheningkan Cipta, and performing other patriotic songs such as Hari Merdeka and Kebyar-Kebyar. One of the highlights was a special performance by Chacha, a talented young singer from Grade 5, who captivated the audience with her heartfelt rendition.
The celebration embodied the national theme of “Nusantara Baru, Indonesia Maju” (“New Archipelago, Advancing Indonesia”). It was not just a moment for students and teachers but also a significant event for parents. Their presence reflected their desire to see a confident and optimistic younger generation that will lead the nation towards a brighter future. The students’ dedication and readiness to participate in the ceremony exemplified the future they envision — one where the youth take pride in contributing to the nation’s development.

Mr. Josh, who served as the leader of the ceremony, delivered a powerful message, saying, “This is a great nation. We need future leaders to be nurtured from an early age.” He expressed his hope that the Independence Day celebration would instill a deep sense of nationalism and love for the country in the students, helping to shape the leaders of tomorrow.
One of the proud parents, Anju’s father, shared his joy as his child, a Grade 2 student, confidently led his class during the ceremony. “Anju was very happy and excited to take on the role of class leader. After the ceremony, we couldn’t wait to take a photo together as a keepsake. It’s important for our children to be self-assured and proud of their contributions, as they represent the future of this country,” he said.

The celebration was more than just an event — it was a testament to the collaborative effort between students, teachers, and parents to cultivate the values of nationalism, unity, and confidence in the future generation. Through this event, Pelita Global Mandiri School hopes to see the emergence of young leaders who will carry the nation forward.
